FAQs

  • Counselling or therapy, in general, provides a space for you to consider the challenges in your life and discuss them with someone who’s neutral but helpful. It’s a space away from your other commitments, to allow you to process your thoughts, emotions, or behaviours in a protected and contained way.

Integrative counselling, specifically, recognises that no single therapeutic approach works for everyone. Just as you are a person with diverse experiences, thoughts, and feelings, effective therapy often requires drawing from multiple therapeutic traditions to meet your unique needs.  I am skilled in person-centred, Gestalt, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural theories and draw on these according to what’s most useful to you.

  • I work with people experiencing:

    • anxiety

    • depression and low mood

    • grief and loss

    • relationship difficulties, interpersonal challenges

    • life transitions (including job changes, relationship loss, perimenopause/menopause, parenting, relocation)

    • attachment wounds

    • guilt, shame, anger, and the effects of historical trauma

    • loneliness and isolation

    • low self esteem, low self worth

    • identity and existential concerns

    • managing neurodivergence

  • I have a calm, confidential therapy space located in Anerley Town Hall, SE20. The location is well served by local transport links, as well as bike racks and on-site parking (payable on arrival). For those with mobility issues, please note the room is on the first floor and requires the ability to use stairs.

  • This is mostly down to personal preference, and of course certain issues are not suitable for distance work. But for those wondering if online sessions really can be effective - in my experience, absolutely! You don’t have to be in the same room to feel seen, heard, and supported.

Online sessions have added benefits in accessibility, comfort, and flexibility in ways that in-person sessions don’t always allow. If you’re considering online sessions, please ensure that you can dedicate space and time that is private and protected, as I do the same.

Crucially, I work with online clients in the same way as in person: by developing a strong, supportive space where you can show up authentically and move towards a deeper understanding of yourself and life’s challenges.

  • We can discuss your specific requirements in the initial consultation.  However, in general, it’s important to note that therapy is a commitment, both to yourself and to the process.

Sessions occur weekly at the same time for the agreed duration, and these sessions are held for you alone.  Therefore, you are required to pay for any sessions that you miss. I am, however, considerate of the events in your life, expected or unexpected, and will make allowances to hold your slot without pay for holidays or emergencies - so long as appropriate notice is given. You are not required to pay for sessions that I cancel or am away for.

Further details can be clarified during our first meeting and will be mutually agreed upon as part of our therapeutic contract.

  • I am committed to treating clients with care and respect. I will always bring a warm honesty into our sessions, and will only ever go at your pace on this journey.

As a registered member of NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society), I am on an Accredited Register that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.  I'm committed to upholding the NCPS’s Code of Ethical Practice (more information can be found here), including improving standards and safety for the benefit of the public, and committing to high professional standards of practice.

I’m also committed to continuing to develop professionally - by being well supervised, undertaking new training periodically, and staying up-to-date with the field’s latest research and developments. I will not take on work that is outside of my skillset, because I am committed to client safety and well-being first and foremost. Therefore, if an issue arises for which another professional is better suited, I will direct clients onwards.

  • My role as a therapist is to help you come to a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences, but NOT to give you advice. You may want to consider a different type of support (like coaching) if you are looking for advice.

If you are under the care of another mental health professional, or are receiving counselling elsewhere (e.g., couples counselling, or through work), we will not be able to work together at this stage.

If you are in crisis and need help immediately, I recommend the following:
